By training in CGC, you and your dog will deepen your bond and become a more connected team. Not only will you and your dog learn the basics of dog training and master skills like sit, down, and stay, but your dog will become a welcomed community member when out in public.
The AKC CGC title is a prerequisite for many therapy dog certifications, as well as a great introduction to more advanced dog sports and activities.
Successful completion of the evaluation will earn your dog a "CGC" title:

The AKC Temperament Test (ATT) title invoves a general temperament test for all breeds and mixed breed dogs that will assess the dog’s reaction to a variety of stimuli. These stimuli will be in the following six categories:
- Social,
- Auditory,
- Visual,
- Tactile (touch),
- Proprioceptive (motion) and
- Unexpected Stimuli.
The purpose of the ATT is to test for fear, shyness, inability to recover, and lack of cooperation. Desired traits are that the dog will be emotionally stable, inquisitive, appropriately social for its breed, biddable, and demonstrates the ability to recover from a startling situation in a reasonable amount of time. Dogs who show signs of aggression will not pass the test.
The ATT title requires two (2) successful evaluations, each from a different evaluator.

This is the perfect starting point for building a strong, positive relationship with your dog while laying the groundwork for future pet therapy work, if desired. In this introductory class, you and your dog will focus on essential basic skills and socialization techniques that form the foundation for a well-mannered, confident companion. You’ll work on key behaviors such as sit, stay, come, and leash manners, while also teaching your dog how to greet politely. Through structured, positive reinforcement-based exercises, we’ll help your dog develop impulse control and the ability to focus in various environments. While this class introduces foundational skills that can prepare your dog for therapy work, pursuing certification is not required—this class is equally beneficial for anyone seeking a happy, well-rounded canine companion. Whether you have a puppy just starting out or an adult dog needing some refreshers, this class provides the tools to ensure your dog is comfortable, well-behaved, and social in everyday situations. It’s a fun, supportive way to start your journey toward a confident and balanced canine.
